La Croix de Beaucaillou perfectly illustrates the blurry border that can separate First and Second Wines.
Marketed as the Second Wine of Chateau Ducru, the Croix de Beaucaillou has dedicated plots, separated from those used for the First Wine, and was finally awarded the rank of Second Growth.
On the first nose, La Croix de Beaucaillou 2017 reveals a surprisingly pure bouquet, overflowing with freshness, with scents of ripe black fruits, blackcurrants, plums, and crushed blackberries as well as subtle notes of spices and dried flowers. After some agitation, it lets emerge elegant perfumes of cigar box, notes of roasted coffee, and a touch of cocoa. Powerful and medium-bodied, La Croix de Beaucaillou 2017 offers a mouth filled with layers of ripe, fresh black and red fruit rolled up in a granular tannic texture that lines the tongue and cheeks with earthy notes with impressive length and persistence.
